It’s That Time of Year

Fall is usually one of my favourite seasons and this year is no different.

One of the harder things about this time of year are the celebrations that used to occur. Birthdays, an anniversary and Thanksgiving all happen in Sept/Oct, my own birthday included. It brings up some bittersweet feelings as I have an entire history of traditions that just don’t happen anymore and haven’t for nearly 15 years.

It’s a bit sad, sure. It’s been difficult managing my emotions around this time of year but I’m getting better. I have a tattoo appointment set up the day after my birthday (number 16 I believe!) and I’m not working on my actual birthday. These are all things to look forward to.

I’ve spoken with my counsellor a lot about managing expectations and tuning out the negativity. I’m coming more to terms with how the actions of others affect me and how I want to respond.

I’m looking forward to my 38th year and the things I hope to accomplish!
