Getting Lost

My favourite part about reading is getting lost in a book.

I love getting lost in the world, in the character’s lives, in the story itself. That’s also my favourite part about writing.

Sure, the characters will share something with me, be it personality, physical appearance, mentality, but they are also separate people. They are separate lives that are vastly different from my own and very much the same all together.

My book has been reviewed again:

It’s also on Amazon and Smashwords. The review is the same wherever you look, so you can decide where you’d like to read it. It made me feel really good when I read the review and I am very grateful for it. I’ve started my first book that I will review in exchange for having mine done. It’s a long book, but I am excited for it. I’ve just started the first few pages so we’ll see how it goes.

Ack. If only I didn’t have to work for a living…

Reading, reading, reading

I’ve done what I like to call a “Story Swap” with a couple people from the Twitter and WordPress who are writers as well and I just started reading the books. I’ve got 4 to get through and I’ve promised to write reviews for these people as well.

I think it’s only fair and they’re helping me while I help them. Nothing wrong with that at all!

I didn’t start anything this weekend though because I wanted to play my video game, Tales of Graces f (I strongly believe the ‘f’ stands for ‘Foreign’ since it’s English Dub :P) and I got really involved in that game this weekend. I really like the Tales series and I am really looking forward to the next one which is due out in August as it was supposed to come out in JANUARY of this year but got pushed back.

The first book on my plate is: A Seer Ended by Michael Hale. You can find his work at:

I just loaded it up on my tablet but it’s sitting at 400 and something pages. That actually makes me really excited because that means it’s probably really involved! I like stories like that. He’s got a profile over at GoodReads too so you should check him out. I’ll touch base on the other books when I get to them.

Happy Monday! I’m alllllllllllllllmost done my Day Job for at least a year. I can’t wait!

So I was checking out my stats etc for my book and realized that someone wrote a review on!

This is the link to the review:

I also have a review on Smashwords which you can read here:

I hope this will help people decide whether or not to read my story 🙂

It was a Dark and Stormy Afternoon….

So yesterday we had a Tornado warning for the area surrounding where I live and work. It was coming up from the south-west and crossing over into the north-east.

My dayhome is right in the south-west and I live in the north, but the north-west. There was no damage done, as far as I know, and a few twisters touched down in the smaller towns surrounding the city I live in. I’m glad no one was hurt, but it was scary to look at.

There was rain, hail, thunder, lightning. These may be all things that people who live in twister territory are used to, but for me, this is the first time it’s ever been this bad.

There was a massive tornado here in ’89 which destroyed parts of the city and claimed lives. Whenever there’s a threat of a tornado, some people get very nervous, which is understandable.

But enough of real life!

It made a good setting for a scene in the story I’ll start working on again, TAK. Just the way the clouds were so close to the ground and swept across the land. This morning when I was crossing the river it was like driving into a wall of fog: I could barely see the car in front of me and the entire river vomited fog all along it. It was so neat to see and I like seeing that. It tends to happen the day after it rains. The rain makes everything cold and then the next day the sun heats it all up and makes that awesome fog.

Sometimes seeing the fog reminds me of the mist I would see when I lived in the forest and just watch how it would wind around the base of trees like something out of a fairy tale.

I’m partly reminded of Neil Gaiman’s book Neverwhere when I see the fog. Maybe because it takes place in London.

Either way, I digress.

Yesterday was dark and stormy and cool. I’m reminded about how powerful nature is and how powerless we humans are to stop it.

The Tiny Progress

Well, I’ve not even been published for an entire week yet but I’ve made some progress!

On I’ve sold 2 units. On I’ve sold 3! All the ones are probably people I know, but I feel so grateful they’re willing to spend the $3.10 it works out to in Canadian Dollars to read my book.

On Smashwords 8 people have downloaded the sample of my book, but no one has purchased it yet. But that’s okay! It still means at least 8 people were interested enough to read the 20% sample I’ve made available!

No one has taken me up on the review offer yet, but I’ll keep trying! Maybe next week I’ll write a post only for offering my book free in exchange for a review *insert evil grin*

In other news, I’m super-stoked to get back to work on the story I was writing when I decided to publish. I think I’ll call it either Three Abandoned Kingdoms or TAK. When I started re-reading it to sort of remember what was going on when I stopped I remembered that it takes place in the world of Tessera where 3/4 kingdoms have been plunged into war. Since the closing off of kingdom #4, the remaining became to be referred to as Three Abandoned Kingdoms, or TAK for short. I think that’s a good title for now. I can always change it later.

I’ll talk more about TAK in the coming days 🙂

Last night at about 9 pm (when I really should have been sleeping) I was checking my e-mail and discovered that Collections Canada had gotten back to me! I was able to log in and assign an ISBN to my book!

WELL! That meant I had to do it RIGHT AWAY and that also meant I had to upload it through KDP as well.

And I did. Now I’m live on both Smashwords and Amazon/Kindle! I am sooo stoked about this! You have no idea.

I’ve updated my book page to reflect the links directly to the book on both websites, but I’ll put the links here as well:

This is the Amazon/Kindle for Canada:

I’ve noticed the price is a bit higher due to the conversion :S I hope that doesn’t put people off.

In the next few days I’m going to develop a coupon for the Smashwords version and I will be issuing it to those who are interested in writing a review either on Smashwords or on Amazon. I’m looking for OBJECTIVE reviews. That means no sucking up just because I know you (use an alternate name when you write the review please) and no being an asshole just because you don’t like it.

If you think you might be interested, please e-mail me directly at:

The coupon will enable you to get the book for free and Smashwords has it in a variety of formats so it should be able to be read on any e-reader you might have.

That’s all for today! Now I have to focus on my Day Job!

Review, Review!

My book is still under review but that’s okay. I might link to it soon anyhow.

I’ve already had 4 downloads of the sample that I made available! :O SO COOL!

I plan on creating a coupon as well so that I can do some give-aways. I’m waiting to hear from Collections Canada about an ISBN before I put it up on KPD as well. I’ll need the ISBN to make it available in the catalog for Kobo, Sony, and iBooks. It can take a while, but I hope it doesn’t. I’m impatient!!!

In the meantime, I’m going to get as much done for KDP as I can so that it’ll be one-click uploading there.

Now, I have so much time to do…..NOTHING! No editing, formatting, brain-wracking!

One thing I can do, though, is work on my next piece. I’ve had a few good ideas for it since I started editing Black & Red. I’m also waiting on my art piece my friend is creating for me to use as my online avatar, if you will. She’s been sooooo busy so I’m totally cool with waiting. You need to wait for a good product!

This is why, if you search me on Smashwords, you will see I don’t have a profile picture. I don’t have one on my Facebook page either. I put a temporary picture on Twitter so that I wouldn’t look like a robot, but I don’t want to use it everywhere. It’s just a place holder at the moment.

I promise once it’s been reviewed I’ll link to the book on my Books section plus I’ll probably do a post on it. I’m excited to read the first review. SOMEONE’S going to review it, I’m sure. As to whether or not it’s nice, that will be a different story. I must steel my heart and not take it personally 🙂

That’s going to be the hard part!

I’ve published on Smashwords!!

There were no errors so it’s awaiting human review for the premium catalog. I’m also waiting for information on getting my ISBN which can take up to 10 business days.

Once it’s been reviewed by human beings I’ll update my Book tab and link directly to the site! I just want that to be done before I do anything.

Had a bit of a panic attack when I went to publish because suddenly the cover file was GONE. Good thing my husband was home (he’s the one who designed it) so he could recreate it for me. It’s nothing special, but it suits me and the book itself so I was very grateful he was able to save my butt there.

I’ll work on getting it on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing later on this weekend or maybe during the next week. You can download a Kindle copy from the Smashwords website in the mean time, once I get everything ‘okayed’.

Phew! For now, it’s time to shut the laptop and relax until bedtime 🙂 See you soon!

2 Days!

Short post today.

I’ve got my Day Job running me ragged so I have to do a couple things before heading out for training and then running out for presentations.

BUT! Two more days until I publish. Well, one really as I’ll publish on the second day, but I still technically have that whole day.

I finished the basic formatting last night. Apparently I am a fan of putting a space after every paragraph before I hit enter to start the next one.

Read through begins tonight! PUBLISHING TOMORROW! AHHHHHHHH!

3 Days!

Last night I formatted up to Chapter 17. That means there are only 10 chapters left!!!

Because it’s coming up so ‘quickly’ I’m getting more and more nervous about it. What if EVERYONE who reads it hates my book? What if they say it’s a waste of space? What if people are overly critical, and not in a nice way? I know not everyone in the world will like it. It’s very possible that people will read it and think it sucks. That’s the risk that is taken by publishing.

I just don’t want people to be mean. Be constructive! It’ll be my first book, after all.

Anyways, I’ll be publishing with Smashwords for sure no later than Friday evening. KDP might have to wait until Saturday because their website requires a bit more information that I haven’t been able to get going while at my Day Job.

Soon! And THEN I get to FINALLY put information under my “Books” tab on the website 😀
