Book Reviews

So I’m going to be writing book reviews and posting them on my site soon.

I’ve created a special section for them so that you guys can navigate accordingly.

I’m in the process of reading the first book that I’ll write a review of.

It’s pretty exciting! I’m going to play around with my themes too and see if I can do something fun.

Anyway, look forward to it!

Nerves Are A-Bundled

Tomorrow I should find out if Black & Red made the cut for Amazon’s Breakthrough Novel Award’s first round.

I am so nervous! Part of me is excited because even if I go no further than this first round, it still means that professionals have seen potential in my work. If I don’t go any further, I’ll be very sad, but I won’t let it get me down too bad. I’ll just continue on with my newest work,TAK, and see where that takes me.

I’ve never entered a competition before with my writing (well, not since my public school days) and I would like to enter more, but I don’t even know where to start. The internet is vast and wide so even searching tends to overload my mind.

Anyways, cross your fingers for me! I’ll update you all as soon as I know!

Review

Received a second review over at GoodReads. I highly suggest checking it out! It goes into great depth about what the reader liked and disliked about my book.

Some people may think it’s too honest, but as a new author trying to get my book(s) known out there, I see it as invaluable teaching material.

After all, how can I hope to make my next book, TAK, any better if I can’t build upon the weaknesses of my past? They need to be shown to me so I can do that and this review hits it all.

It’s been updated on my media page, but here is the link as well: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/632616050

I'm baaaack! Did you miss me?

I’ve finally managed to settle in to my new place a bit. We just got the internet hooked up last week and I’ve been trying to make the place neat and functional. Not doing too bad if I say so myself. Thank-you Ikea! You saved us a lot of trouble!

There have been some new reviews of my book posted. Please check them out at either Amazon or Smashwords. The links should still be under my Media tab 🙂

Living on a military base is definitely a new experience for me. Right now because it’s summer leave, it’s very very quiet. There are a few people here and there walking their dogs, but that’s about it. Maybe it’s just the area I live in that’s so quiet. That’s slightly difficult for me to adjust to since I’m so loud. Now I live in a duplex as well so I’ve got to watch my loudness and the loudness of the Boy and the Dog.

I will most likely not post as much as before as I generally did that at my Day Job. Now that I’m unemployed and a Stay-at-home-mum you’d think I’d have more time but not really. Now I have to focus all my energy on looking after a very energetic 3 year old. And because he’s in the stage of the “trying threes” it takes a lot more out of me than it used to.

Oh, and I’m pregnant and feeling huge. I do the pregnancy waddle now. Very sexy ahahaha.

That’s about it for today. Have a few things that need to get done. Please check out the reviews and the book itself if you’re so inclined 🙂

Today is My Last Day

This will be the last time I ever post from this particular Day Job.

That means in the coming few weeks my posts will be few and far between, if they happen at all. I anticipate I’ll be more active in August once we move and settle in.

In the meantime I’ll catch up on the books I said I’d read, I’ll maybe put something up on the Twitter now and again so people don’t delete me because they think I’m inactive.

So for now, this is it my friends. Watch for me soon. I’ll be back, I promise!

Getting Lost

My favourite part about reading is getting lost in a book.

I love getting lost in the world, in the character’s lives, in the story itself. That’s also my favourite part about writing.

Sure, the characters will share something with me, be it personality, physical appearance, mentality, but they are also separate people. They are separate lives that are vastly different from my own and very much the same all together.

My book has been reviewed again: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18039327-black-red

It’s also on Amazon and Smashwords. The review is the same wherever you look, so you can decide where you’d like to read it. It made me feel really good when I read the review and I am very grateful for it. I’ve started my first book that I will review in exchange for having mine done. It’s a long book, but I am excited for it. I’ve just started the first few pages so we’ll see how it goes.

Ack. If only I didn’t have to work for a living…

Reading, reading, reading

I’ve done what I like to call a “Story Swap” with a couple people from the Twitter and WordPress who are writers as well and I just started reading the books. I’ve got 4 to get through and I’ve promised to write reviews for these people as well.

I think it’s only fair and they’re helping me while I help them. Nothing wrong with that at all!

I didn’t start anything this weekend though because I wanted to play my video game, Tales of Graces f (I strongly believe the ‘f’ stands for ‘Foreign’ since it’s English Dub :P) and I got really involved in that game this weekend. I really like the Tales series and I am really looking forward to the next one which is due out in August as it was supposed to come out in JANUARY of this year but got pushed back.

The first book on my plate is: A Seer Ended by Michael Hale. You can find his work at: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seer-Ended-The-novels-ebook/dp/B00CQBYLQ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368296410&sr=8-1&keywords=A+seer+Ended

I just loaded it up on my tablet but it’s sitting at 400 and something pages. That actually makes me really excited because that means it’s probably really involved! I like stories like that. He’s got a profile over at GoodReads too so you should check him out. I’ll touch base on the other books when I get to them.

Happy Monday! I’m alllllllllllllllmost done my Day Job for at least a year. I can’t wait!

MY FIRST REVIEWS!

So I was checking out my stats etc for my book and realized that someone wrote a review on Amazon.com!

This is the link to the review: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2VFCIGE6TAXIM/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00D68GV7E&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=

I also have a review on Smashwords which you can read here: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/321718

I hope this will help people decide whether or not to read my story 🙂

The Tiny Progress

Well, I’ve not even been published for an entire week yet but I’ve made some progress!

On Amazon.com I’ve sold 2 units. On Amazon.ca I’ve sold 3! All the Amazon.ca ones are probably people I know, but I feel so grateful they’re willing to spend the $3.10 it works out to in Canadian Dollars to read my book.

On Smashwords 8 people have downloaded the sample of my book, but no one has purchased it yet. But that’s okay! It still means at least 8 people were interested enough to read the 20% sample I’ve made available!

No one has taken me up on the review offer yet, but I’ll keep trying! Maybe next week I’ll write a post only for offering my book free in exchange for a review *insert evil grin*

In other news, I’m super-stoked to get back to work on the story I was writing when I decided to publish. I think I’ll call it either Three Abandoned Kingdoms or TAK. When I started re-reading it to sort of remember what was going on when I stopped I remembered that it takes place in the world of Tessera where 3/4 kingdoms have been plunged into war. Since the closing off of kingdom #4, the remaining became to be referred to as Three Abandoned Kingdoms, or TAK for short. I think that’s a good title for now. I can always change it later.

I’ll talk more about TAK in the coming days 🙂

AND WE'RE LIVE!

Last night at about 9 pm (when I really should have been sleeping) I was checking my e-mail and discovered that Collections Canada had gotten back to me! I was able to log in and assign an ISBN to my book!

WELL! That meant I had to do it RIGHT AWAY and that also meant I had to upload it through KDP as well.

And I did. Now I’m live on both Smashwords and Amazon/Kindle! I am sooo stoked about this! You have no idea.

I’ve updated my book page to reflect the links directly to the book on both websites, but I’ll put the links here as well:

Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/321718

Amazon/Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D68GV7E

This is the Amazon/Kindle for Canada: http://www.amazon.ca/Black-Red-ebook/dp/B00D68GV7E

I’ve noticed the price is a bit higher due to the conversion :S I hope that doesn’t put people off.

In the next few days I’m going to develop a coupon for the Smashwords version and I will be issuing it to those who are interested in writing a review either on Smashwords or on Amazon. I’m looking for OBJECTIVE reviews. That means no sucking up just because I know you (use an alternate name when you write the review please) and no being an asshole just because you don’t like it.

If you think you might be interested, please e-mail me directly at:

sarahjaynenantais@gmail.com

The coupon will enable you to get the book for free and Smashwords has it in a variety of formats so it should be able to be read on any e-reader you might have.

That’s all for today! Now I have to focus on my Day Job!
